Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I was born in Houston but grew up outside of New Orleans. I then moved to New Orleans for college and went to Tulane. I had so much fun that I stayed for 15 years!
Why did you choose to go into plastic surgery?
I chose a surgical career because I love being able to fix a problem – not give a pill to someone for the rest of their life. Oftentimes the patients that I see have been stewing and living with something that truly bothers them for quite some time. I am the last stop in their journey, and nothing feels better than delivering them the result that they have been looking for! I love surgery, and the beauty of plastic surgery is that I am able to not only operate which I love, but I get to operate from head to toe. This all-encompassing surgery is complex, incredibly interesting and the aesthetic part makes it even more fascinating. I love the variety of things I get to do and the huge impact my surgeries can have on patients’ lives.
What aspects of plastic surgery do you love?
I love being able to help people with things that can’t be helped in any way other than surgery. Like I mentioned before, often these are things that have bothered them for years. To see the change in confidence/attitude of so many patients after their surgery is incredibly fulfilling.
What is your aesthetic philosophy?
My goal with the majority of procedures is to help the patient look like their younger self. I feel that results should be noticeable, but not because of surgery. More “Wow, he/she looks really rested and happy” than “Wow, look at him/her. They must have had some serious work done!”
What areas do you treat or what treatments do you specialize in?
Since I love operating on the whole body, it runs the gamut. Facelifts and Mommy makeovers ( which is a broad all-encompassing term) are my favorite because patient satisfaction is so very high. But I also love doing the smaller surgeries too, from blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) to even the very detailed work required for a great keloid removal result (I tend to shave away and carve the tissue and the results are amazing), I just really love plastic surgery.
How long have you been practicing and where?
I have been in private practice for 3 and a half years in Houston. Before that, I did a 3-year fellowship in Plastic Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital after a 5 year General Surgery residency in New Orleans.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Most of my free time is spent with my family – two kids under the age of 4 really keep you busy! I cook almost every night and am always trying new recipes/cuisines and to improve those that I make.
I am on a committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and hope we can get back to doing some of those activities again next year.
Thanks for reading! I’m super excited to continue my practice with the SBA Dermatology and Sanova Dermatology teams. I look forward to getting to know everyone and serving this community!
